Derry, New Hampshire Uses Innovative
Solution to Meet Kindergarten Mandate
Utilizing Modular Classrooms from Schiavi Leasing Corporation
September 3, 2008
The Derry School District in New Hampshire was one of the largest
school districts in the country without a public kindergarten…until
today. New Hampshire’s Bill No SB 530 requires all school
districts to offer kindergarten by September 2009 as part of the
definition of adequate education; however, they did not have room
for the new kindergarten classes in the Grinnell Elementary School.
Jane Simard enlisted the services of Schiavi Leasing Corporation,
a division of Vanguard Modular Building Systems for a modular unit.
Schiavi constructed a custom, two classroom addition to the Grinnell
Elementary school providing enough space for 56 students, 28 in
each session. This modular unit has a brick façade that
matches the existing school building. Schiavi Leasing Corp (SLC)
was able to meet a tough timeline and completed the school addition
on time, within budget to rave reviews.
