Amherst College Dormitories
Amherst, Massachusetts |
 |
“We were surprised by the
flexibility Vanguard Modular
demonstrated in adapting their construction schedule to accommodate
the
restrictions imposed by other activities on campus.”
Peter Root
Project Manager,
Amherst College
Amherst, Massachusetts |
| |
Challenge:
Swelling enrollments and limited time required quick
construction of two new dormitories for the fall. Each building
needed to hold 50 students, with full bathroom facilities and
standard dorm amenities such as cable TV, high-speed internet,
climate control and sprinklers in each room. They needed to be
temporary additions, for use during renovations to existing dorms,
but still
blend with the campus.
Modular Solution:
Modular
dormitory buildings solved both the space and time requirements
at Amherst.
The buildings were constructed
at the factory for the most efficient delivery schedule.
They were upgraded with 2x6 wall and floor construction, extra
insulation
and
vinyl siding to blend with other buildings.
Site work began in April and was completed in August, in
time for fall semester students to move in. |

of our
temporary school building. Schiavi Leasing made it easy to quickly
house our students and responded in a timely manner to all issues.
We were even able to incorporate some of our own ideas into the
building plans.

Challenge: The expanding population
and desperate need for renovation of the 50-year old school created an immediate need
for over 16,000 sq. ft. of elementary school space for 200 students.
The Schiavi Leasing technical team needed to solve this crisis,
on time and on budget.
Modular Solution: The solution was
a complete turnkey project - including excavation, foundation,
modular
building design and construction,
installation, landscaping and drainage, electrical, plumbing,
fire alarm, data and communications wiring, a complete sprinkler

Challenge: A temporary
school was needed immediately while the community raised funds
for a permanent school building.
Specifications for the entire building needed to be developed by
Vanguard Modular and working with the architect on the site plan
was also a requirement.
Modular Solution: Vanguard Modular delivered
a complete turnkey solution. Vanguard Modular was in charge of
the building construction as well
as the necessary electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits. Vanguard
Modular’s role included building design and construction,
site preparation, installation, decking, equipment and connections
for
the fire alarm, and all pre-wiring for the data and communications
systems. Even with a re-zoning issue, the time from delivery to
operational completion was just six weeks. |
